134th ARW children’s gift shops at ETCH



KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – Men and women serving in the Tennessee Air National Guard at McGhee Tyson Base spent Sunday morning shopping for gifts for children over Christmas at the hospital.

Guards from the 134th Air Refueling Wing Security Forces Squadron helped pick out fun gifts at the Sports + Outdoors Academy in Knoxville to give to children at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital on Sunday. .

The store helped pay $ 1,000 in freebies for things like winter clothes, shoes, games, and sports equipment. The squadron said it also raised money throughout the year to pay for the annual giveaway campaign, which is in its 20th year now.

“When you see the faces of these kids in the hospital, and when they see Santa Claus, for that little while, they’re not sick. They don’t have the disease that brought them there. They’re just one. kid at Christmas, “said Staff Sgt. Joey Hungate.” It’s just an amazing experience. “

Santa and his elves will be delivering gifts to children on December 11 at ETCH.

Hungate said he plans to retire from the Air National Guard in the near future, but hopes to see the gift giving event continue for many years to come.
