Bowers, Lefker and Bogard named Nike #HLTF Athletes of the Week

Three Youngstown State track athletes were named Nike #HLTF Athlete of the Week for their performances at the YSU Icebreaker on December 3, the league office said on Tuesday.

Jahniya Bowers (60m, 200m), Wyatt Lefker (pole vault) and Erin Bogard (pole vault) were selected for weekly honors after the first week of indoor competition.

In the first of two competition wins, Jahniya Bowers took gold in the women’s 60m, clocking 7.38 – a mark that matches her YSU Icebreaker record set in 2019 and qualifies as the second most all-time fast in YSU history. Additionally, Bowers’ time is currently the second fastest women’s sprint across the country. Later that afternoon, Bowers entered the blocks in the women’s 200m and won her second title of the day, winning the event in a personal best 24.40 seconds.

Wyatt Lefker set a new YSU record with a 5.15m pole vault, surpassing the 4.95m bar he set at the YSU Collegiate Invitational during the 2021 indoor season. Lefker’s mark also qualified as a new YSU icebreaker record and is tied for the sixth best track and field crossover in Division I.

Erin Bogard set a new YSU record in the women’s pole vault, clearing a bar of 4.05m and raising her previous program record of a jump of 4.00m set at the 2021 Horizon League Indoor Championships The jump also qualified as a new YSU Icebreaker and personal best for Bogard, and currently stands as the tenth best jump in the country.
