CUI’s Ervin & Thorpe named PacWest Fellows-Athletes of the Year

IRVINE, Calif .– Concordia Exhibition Student-Athletes Mike Ervin and Mckinsey thorpe etched their names into the history books this week as PacWest College Athletes of the Year in their respective sports.

Thorpe compiled a cumulative GPA of 4.0 as a graduate student in Concordia’s MCAA program. Its recognition marks the sixth consecutive year that a CUI softball player has won the PacWest Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the sport.

Ryann Ferguson won three years in a row (2016-18) patrolling the outfield during his time with the Eagles. Shortstop Sarah kretschmar then carried the torch in 2019 and 2020 for Green and Gold.

Now their former teammate gets the nod as Thorpe hails her impressive Concordia career.

Thorpe also became the first CUI student-athlete in the softball program to be named the PacWest Player of the Year earlier this spring, and led the Eagles in a number of offensive categories, including the batting average among the starters. .

Ervin has a cumulative grade point average of 3.63 and is majoring in behavioral science. He becomes the first male track and field athlete to earn this honor in the era of the NCAA DII. Ervin is also the first Concordia male student-athlete to be named PacWest Athlete of the Year in any sport.

The former Ferris High School in Spokane, Wash., Set the Concordia high jump school record twice this season, tying his previous mark in that event. Ervin was also named to the USTFCCA All Region roster and finished second at the PacWest Conference Championships in the high jump.

Ervin and Thorpe both advance to the next round where they will be considered along with the other 13 PacWest Scholar-Athlete of the Year award winners in all sports.
