IMTS 2022 Conference: Manufacturing Turns to Lasers

About the presentation
Today’s manufacturing operations are complex with increasing product variants, shifts in demand, and lead time requirements. Additionally, as computer numerical control (CNC) machining evolves into all-in-one processes and device and data system integrations become more common, the need for intelligent planning of operations is of paramount importance. Added to the constant conditions are the challenges of durability and skilled labor. The goal is to establish a resilient and flexible production environment, but what are the best ways to achieve this? How does a manufacturer integrate flexibility, but also profitability? The short answer: with the right tools and mindset. Nathan Turner will present field-proven ways to economically produce a wide variety of small batches by combining the efficiencies of physical movement, process integration, production planning and employee engagement.

Participants in this dynamic session will learn:

• The three building blocks for economical batch manufacturing: automation of physical movements, production planning and process integration
• How to automate multifunctional machine tools and integrate secondary operations such as finishing, washing and metrology
• Emerging and exciting automation technologies including AGVs, 3D printing and 5G connectivity
• How factory automation helps attract and retain talented employees
