(the “Company” or “Patriot”) (CSE: PMET) (PMETF) (FSE: R9GA) is pleased to announce the results of the initial mineralogical characterization of drill core samples from the 100% owned Corvette property (the “Property”), as well as the start of a preliminary metallurgical testwork program. The property is located close to the Trans-Taïga Highway and regional and all-weather power line infrastructure in the James Bay region of Quebec.
Initial mineralogical work was performed by SGS Canada on twenty-two (22) analytical drill core reject samples taken from four (4) of the first five (5) drill holes to target lithium pegmatite in 2021 – CF21 -001 and 002 (CV5 Pegmatite), CF21-004 (Pegmatite CV6) and CF21-014 (Pegmatite CV12). All samples were analyzed by XRD (X-ray diffraction) for modal mineralogy, four (4) samples by TIMA-X (Quantitative Evaluation of Materials by Scanning Electron Microscopy) for mineral associations and elemental behavior, and four ( 4) samples by Probe Electron Micro-Analysis (EPMA) and laser ablation by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA by ICP-MS) for mineral chemistry. The purpose of the mineralogy work is to provide a preliminary characterization of the lithium pegmatite at Corvette and to guide preliminary metallurgical (mineral processing) testwork.
Modal mineralogies for pegmatites, as determined by XRD, support the logging of geologic cores. Major minerals include quartz, feldspar (albite, microcline), and spodumene, with minor minor muscovite and tourmaline as accessories. Rare accessory minerals (generally
The combined mineralogy and mineral chemistry results indicate that spodumene is the primary lithium-bearing mineral at Corvette. No petalite or lithium phosphate minerals were observed from XRD; although traces of lepidolite minor (Li mica) and lithium-bearing muscovite and tourmaline are present in some samples. However, where spodumene is present, it is the dominant lithiated mineral. In addition, among the samples probed grading > 0.4% Li2O, spodumene accounts for 86-99% of the lithium content, which further confirms that the quality of lithium is carried by spodumene. Collectively, these preliminary results indicate that the mineral spodumene transports the vast majority of lithium to Corvette and supports the visual observations of field geologists.
An additional suite of core billets and analytical rejects is being compiled for follow-up mineralogical analysis which will include XRD, TIMA-X, EPMA, LA by ICP-MS, as well as thin section analysis. The work will improve the understanding of Corvette pegmatites and guide metallurgical testing programs.
In addition to initial mineralogical work, a preliminary metallurgical testwork program is currently underway at SGS Canada’s facility in Lakefield, Ontario. Approximately 225 kg of NQ quarter core samples, including mineralized intervals from drill holes CF21-001 and 002, have been received by the laboratory for initial testing. The preparation of the material has just been completed and the trial work has started.
Testing should include main sample characterization and mineralogy, grindability, heavy liquid separation (HLS), dense media separation (DMS), magnetic separation and flotation. The primary objective of the preliminary metallurgical program is to evaluate the beneficiation performance of the Corvette material using a conventional lithium pegmatite flowsheet and produce a spodumene concentrate >6% Li2O and 2O3while maximizing lithium recovery.
About CV Lithium Trend
The CV Lithium Trend is an emergent spodumene-bearing pegmatite district discovered by the Company in 2017 and spans the FCI West, FCI East and Corvette claim blocks. The central area includes an approximately 2 km long corridor (the CV5-1 Corridor), which is part of the more than 25 km long CV Lithium trend extending through the property. It consists of numerous spodumene-bearing pegmatite occurrences, which include pegmatites CV1, CV2, CV3, CV5, CV6, CV7 and CV11 and returned drill intersections of 0.94% Li2O and 117 ppm Ta2O5 over 155.1 m (CF21-002), and 2.22% Li2O over 70.1 m including 3.01% Li2O for 40.7 m (CV22-017). Drilling to date indicates a main pegmatite body of significant size and has been drill traced for a distance of at least 1.4 km and, therefore, is considerably larger than that seen in the outcrop. The high number of well-mineralized pegmatites in this central area of the trend indicates strong potential for a series of relatively closely spaced/stacked, sub-parallel, large spodumene-bearing pegmatite bodies with significant lateral and depth extent. . present.
